Road legal, done properly

The rules are strict. Our builder knows them all.

UK plates must use the Charles Wright font, 79mm characters, exact spacing and approved flags – and they must come from a registered supplier who checks your documents. Get it wrong and it is a fine of up to £1,000 and an MOT fail.

  • Legal spacing applied automatically for every registration format
  • Only black characters on white (front) and yellow (rear) in road-legal mode
  • Supplier name, postcode and BS AU 145e on every road-legal plate
  • Clear show-plate labels on anything that is not road legal

Are 4D number plates road legal?

Yes. Raised 3D gel, 4D and 5D plates are legal when they use the Charles Wright font, correct spacing, black characters and a BS AU 145e plate from a registered supplier. Read are 3D and 4D plates legal?

Why do you need my ID and V5C?

By law, registered suppliers must see proof of who you are and your right to the registration before making road-legal plates. You can upload photos at checkout or after ordering. See documents we need.

How quickly will my plates arrive?

Plates are made to order once your documents are checked, then sent by tracked delivery. See our delivery page for options and cut-off times.

Can I order different sizes for the front and rear?

Yes. Choose each size separately in the builder – for example a standard front plate and a square 4×4 rear plate.

What is a show plate?

Any plate that does not follow the road-legal rules, such as custom text, coloured characters or bubble shapes. They are for shows and display only. Read show plates explained.

Do you include fixings?

Every order includes sticky pads. You can add a fitting kit with screws and colour-matched caps in the builder.
