How to use the plate builder
- Enter your registration exactly as it appears on your V5C. We recognise the format and apply the legal spacing.
- Choose your plates – front and rear, or just one – and the size for each.
- Pick a character style: printed, 3D gel, 4D 3mm or 5mm, or 5D gel.
- Add a badge – UK with the Union flag, ENG, SCO, CYM – or a green flash for zero-emission vehicles.
- Check the road-legal checklist, add a fitting kit if you need one, and add to basket.
- Upload your ID and V5C at checkout so we can make your plates straight away.

Builder FAQs
Why can’t I change the font or spacing?
In road-legal mode the builder locks the font, spacing and colours to the legal requirements so you can’t accidentally order an illegal plate. Switch to show mode for full creative control.
Is the preview accurate?
Yes. Every plate is drawn to scale in millimetres using the legal character dimensions, including the depth of 4D and 5D characters.
Can I save my design?
Use “Copy design link” under the preview to save or share your design.
What if my registration doesn’t fit a short plate?
The builder checks every size against the legal character and margin rules and tells you if your registration won’t fit.
